OVERVIEW
American Society of Ophthalmic Registered Nurses (ASORN) Ophthalmic Update 2017 is organized by American Society of Ophthalmic Registered Nurses and would be held on Apr 22, 2017 at Presbyterian Hospital, Dallas, Texas, United States of America. The target audience for this medical event is designed for ophthalmic registered nurses, ophthalmic assistants, technicians and technologists and other interested in the clinical care of the ophthalmic patient. This cme has been approved with 6.25 Nurse Contact Hours.
This course will focus on new trends in cornea surgery; Descemet's Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK) and Corneal Crosslinking. We will review the standard technique for treatment of endothelial dysfunction, DSEK, and compare to the newer DMEK technique. We will discuss the new Avedro system.
This course will cover basic introduction to diabetic retinopathy. The pathogenesis and pathophysiology of diabetic retinopathy. The classification schemes employed to determine its severity and its management. Finally, various treatments available to the eye professional to control this devastating disease.
This course will provide a basic outline for new technologies available for patients needing or wanting contact lenses. Topics discussed will include but will not be limited to soft contact lenses, RGP lenses, and scleral contact lenses.
Objectives:
• Discuss the difference between DSEK and DMEK.
• Discuss Corneal Crosslinking.
• Describe the cause of diabetic retinopathy and the role of blood glucose.
• List at least three common causes of red eye.
• Name 5 pertinent preoperative surgical considerations when evaluating cataracts in the clinic.
• Discuss recent surgical advances in glaucoma.
